What is a Scrapstore?

Scrapstores (or re-use hubs/centres) are organisations that take re-usable, safe, clean waste products and re-distribute them to the wider community, especially to charities, community organisation, and schools. Many Scrapstores also provide to the public and artists.

We are the only listed Scrapstore in Northumberland

Our Scrapstore Mission

Our Northumberland Scrapstore service collects reusable resources from local businesses and redistributes them to our local community - especially to charities, community organisations, and schools - for use in creative repurposing, such as arts, crafts, and technology projects.  We run a membership service, with a small fee, for community organisations using our service – this helps us cover our costs.

We will design our boxes around the waste we get, adding additional resources only where necessary. We can accept materials that are: clean, undamaged, safe, and reusable.

Pop-up Scrapstore

Our Pop-up Scrapstore’s are one off events available to anyone, including community and educational organisations as well as members of the public. We welcome registered charities, community organisations and clubs, schools, nurseries and other educational settings. We only ask that visitors are not aiming to make a commercial profit from our resources.

  • 1. Registration

You will need to register with us when you arrive, and agree to our terms and fair use conditions – including not selling resources.

  • 2. Payment

At this time our Pop-up Scrapstore is a cash only event. We can provide a receipt for individuals or for the organisation.

  • 3. Fill your bag

For a flat rate of £10 you can fill a large hessian sack with the materials of your choosing. You can also take items larger than your sack, at no additional charge. You can buy more than one sack full.

Our Scrapstore supports Northumberland County Council’s Climate Change Action Plan on reducing Waste.

Northumberland County Council will support and engage our communities to consider a more circular approach to our economy and reduce waste by supporting efforts to design out waste, keeping materials in operation and productive use for as long as possible. This will reduce climate impacts and open new opportunities for businesses and consumers to provide and purchase sustainable goods and services.
