Who we are
Our Directors are a team of volunteers, with a shared-passion for inclusion and the environment.
This is George.
He’s a teenager with Down’s Syndrome and Autism. He’s hugely resilient as most things are a struggle for him and I am constantly learning from him and for him.
George is kind and helpful and would want to be included in ways of making a positive difference to the environment and the world.
George enjoys helping and activities that are engaging, accessible and purposeful.
This is me - Vicky.
I used to be a Business Advisor, an Administrator, and a Trainer and Teacher (specialising in developing effective learners), before George arrived.
His needs didn’t work with the demands of teaching, so I took a career break, combining advocating for my son and working in the charity and voluntary sector.
I naturally worked with Carer groups, Parents of kids with special needs, and on projects for disabled adults at my local community and voluntary organisation.
George is the inspiration for Repurposeful.
I am like so many parents of people with additional needs—I want ways for my child to be part of his community, to see true inclusion and for him to know he has worth and can contribute to society through volunteering and work.
I want to see an organisation that is flexible and creative enough to include everyone, providing a range of ways to access activities and that helps build confidence and experience as a stepping-stone to other work.
Leading George’s learning during lockdown led me to look at ways of combining my skills with his needs for the future
and for the world I would want for him. As he approached secondary school age, I explored the options post-education and found an overlap of need, my skills and my passion for making positive change.
I came up with Repurposeful and began to seek others who were on board with my concept and to find support to develop my idea.
