Pop-up Scrapstore

We have a temporary Scrapstore in Ashington Town Centre! We are thrilled to be Property Guardians of the former mirror shop on Laburnum Terrace, in the centre of Ashington.

Upcoming Events at our Pop-up Scrapstore

We’ll be holding open days over the coming months, with events for community and educational organisations. We welcome registered charities, community organisations and clubs, schools, nurseries and other educational settings.

We will also have open day events for Ashington residents as well as those for all members of public. Watch this space and follow us on Facebook for announcements of dates.

What is a Pop-up Scrapstore?

Scrapstores collect re-usable materials, mainly donated by businesses, and re-distribute them to the wider community for use in creative repurposing, such as arts, crafts, and technology projects.

Who is the Scrapstore for?

We welcome:

  • Registered charities

  • Community organisations and clubs

  • Schools

  • Nurseries and other educational settings

  • Not-for-profit community companies

We will also be holding special days when members of the public can visit.

How will it work?

Organisations will pay to join the Scrapstore and then will only pay a small flat rate each time they visit and load up a sack with resources.

For more information and current rates, go to our Scrapstore membership page.

What sort of materials will be on offer?

Thanks to the generosity of local individuals and businesses, we have a huge range of materials in different quantities.

Some of our current stock:

  • Fabric offcuts, ribbon, wool, haberdashery

  • Paper and card crafts and embellishments

  • Cardboard and plastic tubes

  • Hessian sacks, foam and polystyrene sheeting

  • Unused plastic bottles and lids

  • Mixed small bits ‘scrapbags’ courtesy of our creative partner, Creative Remakery

  • And a whole lot of misc!

Visiting on our Open Days

For a small flat rate you get to fill a ‘Caribe Coffee Carrier Bag’ (a large hessian sack) with the resources of your choosing. You can also take larger items, such as long tubes, in addition to your sack full, at no additional charge. You can buy more than one sack full.  Our small charge is to cover our costs, including rent, storage and running expenses (we are a not-for-profit). We can provide a receipt for individuals or for the organisation.

Some items may have a limit on them to make it fair to everyone, but there will be plenty of options available.

If you need a certain number of something eg. for a whole class or group, speak to one of our volunteers and we’ll try to accommodate you.

Scrapstore Membership

Like most Scrapstores, we operate on a membership basis, with a small annual joining fee and then charge for each visit. Once you’re signed up as a member, anyone from that organisation can visit the Scrapstore.

You will need to show proof of membership or register your organisation with us when you arrive at one of our open days, and show evidence of the organisation you are part of.  You’ll need to agree to our terms and fair use conditions – including not selling resources not aiming to make a commercial profit from our resources.
